SUPER DRUMMING VOL.3
The preparation of the third Super Drumming DVD is under way and it will be packed with previously unreleased goodies. The show is now 20 years old and I am constantly meeting good young drummers who tell me they were first turned on to drumming by the great players we were privileged to feature. I will be recording some video material of my own memories of the show and its stars directed by my valued friend, Michael Maschke, who directed all the shows so expertly.
FRANKFURT MESSE
It looks like I will be able to get to the Frankfurt Messe for one day only on March 28. I will have to sprint around greeting the Pearls, the Sabians and the Vic Firths because directly afterwards I have some gigs with Bruce Adams and Alan Barnes in the Stuttgart area which should crackle with energy. Martin Schrack, old pal and great pianist on many of my adventures, has fixed two sessions, March 29 in his home village of Rechberghausen and March 30 in the Jazzfabrik, Waiblingen. Then on March 31 Bruce, Alan and I join clarinettist Charles Höllering in the Traditional Jazz Hall in Stuttgart itself.
„MEIN FÜHRER“ OPENS IN JANUARY
When the film, „Mein Führer“ opens in January, you will see that one of the leading roles is that of Hitler’s moustache. Rumours have it that my moustache was trimmed to shape by the unscrupulous demon barber of Sheffield and taken to audition for the part.
Helge is completely unaware of this and would be most upset if he thought he had spent ten weeks with a hairy part of me under his nose.
Personally I prefer to believe in the sighting by a patron of the Spearmint Rhino Tabledance Club in Birmingham who thinks he spotted my moustache decorating the lower abdomen of a Svetlana Getya Nickasoff, a former Miss Tractor Transmission Shaft of Minsk, as she slid down her pole and thrust her pelvis into his brown ale.
